The sapwood of American White Oak is light coloured and the heartwood is light to dark brown. White Oak is mostly straight grained with a medium to coarse texture, with longer rays than Red Oak. White Oak therefore has more figure.

Cherry Mahog |
Possibly the finest ‘Mahogany’ type hardwood available from Africa today. The heartwood matures from pink-brown when fresh cut to deep red-brown. The grain is interlocked to rather irregular, producing a wide irregular striped figure.

The sapwood of American White Ash is light coloured to nearly white and the heartwood varies from greyish brown to light brown, to pale yellow streaked with brown. The wood is generally straight grained with a coarse uniform texture. The degree of light coloured sapwood will vary according to the growing regions.

The sapwood of American Hard Maple is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge and the heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. The amount of darker brown heartwood can vary significantly according to growing region. Both sapwood and heartwood can contain pith fleck.

The wide geographical range of this species provides varying strength, texture, densities, number and size of knots etc. The narrow sapwood is creamy white to yellow and the heartwood is pale yellowish brown to reddish brown.
European Steamed Beech

European Beech is normally white, pale cream or pale brown, but the steaming process (to relieve drying stresses) brings out a pinkish-red colour. Beech has a straight grain and fine, even texture.
